We Never Got To Say Goodbye

Cassius Winston

Two years ago, Cassius was poised to lead his Spartans to a national title, with visions of One Shining Moment playing with Coach Izzo’s arm draped around him, just like he did with Mateen in 2000. As fate would have it, this dream season ended abruptly with the onset of the pandemic. It just was not meant to be.

Cassius, Detroit born & raised, is all about grit, hustle, pride, and integrity. He left East Lansing that spring to make good on his declaration that “Ima keep working until my mom don't have to anymore” as a professional basketball player. That drive, spirit and character is what has allowed Cassius to rise above the challenges he has faced both personally and professionally.

Get to Know Cassius Winston

The oldest of 3 talented brothers, Cassius was always destined for greatness. “We got him a Fisher-Price basketball rim when he was really young,” his Dad said. “Before he could walk, he could shoot, and he had good form. I was excited about that. My wife thought I was crazy.”

Cassius went on to become a star prep player at University of Detroit Jesuit High School in Detroit, where his Dad still coaches today. As a senior in 2016, he led his team to an MHSAA Class A State Championship and was named Mr. Basketball of Michigan.

Cassius then went on to Michigan State University where he was coached by the legendary Tom Izzo. During his time in East Lansing, he cemented himself as of the best Spartan basketball players of all time as an All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year and setting the Big Ten all-time assist record.

Cassius was selected in the 2020 NBA Draft, and currently is on a two-way contract with both the Washington Wizards and Capital City Go-Go.

His Dad remains proud of his son and remembers how “We lived in the gym … worked on everything -- shooting left and right, dribbling, layups. Oftentimes, we left after he did homework, or he did homework in the car.”

What to Expect

REVEL Moments are #humanfirst, which means we will focus on the human behind the athlete and bring to life untold stories, insights, and lessons learned that can inspire, educate, or uplift everyone.

What to Expect

We want REVEL Moments events to be fun, intimate, and empathetic — leaving you with moments of elevation, pride, and insight about your host and their path in life. To do this we want you to be part of the event so get ready:
  • To be on screen (as the audience will be visible)!
  • Submit a question in advance of the event as you may get a chance to join us on stage and ask the question live.
  • If so moved (+ over 21 years old!) grab an adult beverage and sit back to enjoy the athlete joining you in the room.
A typical REVEL Moments event lasts between 45 - 60 minutes. For more details check out our FAQs.

How many other people will be there?

REVEL Moments events are meant to feel intimate and have been crafted so you feel like you are in a small setting, truly learning who your host is. The number of tickets issued for each event will vary and always be limited.

How can I provide input into what stories I would like to learn about?

Join the conversation! Every time you purchase a ticket, you will be asked to respond to a 1-minute survey about what you would like your host and moderator to talk about. We review every response and incorporate them into the planned content for that event.

My son Owen actually got to talk with Cade!

It was very personal and neat to see the human side of Cade.

Richard B.
